I was sitting by the river at Lechlade in the Costwolds when this white duck came and sat right next to me. I had a sketch book on me and made some drawings and then painted it in the studio that weekend.
I painted this at Bristol Zoo in the UK before the millennium. It was a sunny day and I observed the penguins floating on the water above me through a special underwater walk way.
What attracted me to painting this image was the dappled sunliight on the lions fur for the sun filtering through the branches on the old tree. I painted this in 1999
