Polar Bear Study

Acrylic on Canvas 16 x 20 by Brendan Burns

I spent several weekends at the Roger Williams Park Zoo studying the animals and was fascinated by Kobe the young female Polar Bear who was just 6 months old at the time and quite comical.

Seagull with Starfish

Acrylic on MDF Panel 24 x 36 by Brendan Burns

The inspiration for this painting came from a trip to Jamestown in 2001 where I was watching the segulls picking up starfish from the rock pools. It was a bright sunny day and the reflection of the sunlight on the birds made for a very strong contrast from the dark rocks in the background. The image shown here is just a small part of the larger painting.

Polar Bears

Oil on canvas 20 x 30 by Brendan Burns

This is the first painting I did of mother and daughter - Trixie and Kobe from Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence RI. Trixie is the mother bear and Kobe the young cub being taught to swim or so it seems. I studied them for a whole day gathering a lot of reference material. I painted and dontated this original work to the zoo for their Annual Fundraising Auction.

Polar Bear Study 2

Acrylic on canvas 20 x 30 by Brendan Burns

This is a larger study of Kobe the young Polar Bear when she was at the Roger Williams Zoo.

There are three hidden bears in this picture - can you find them?

I painted this and donated it to the zoo for their annual fund raisning event called Zoobilee. It raised a $1,000 at the silent Auction.

The markings in the rocks in the background are also the pattern of the zoo layout representing the various pathways. I painted a lot of hot and cold colours together in the fur so the painting was quite vibrant when you looked into it.

The entire painting was completed in one weekend
